In the ever-evolving world of rail transport, operators are under constant pressure to increase capacity and improve efficiency. The push for greater automation and wider adoption of Automatic Train Operation (ATO) are at the forefront of these efforts. A key enabler of these transformations is an effective long-range obstacle detection.

SEEFAR addresses this challenge by combining a high-resolution radar specifically designed for the demanding requirements of railway operations with multi-spectral Electro-Optical sensors, and powerful software based on classical Computer Vision and Signal Processing algorithms, as well as AI and Machine Learning methods. This combination ensures unparalleled performance in all weather and visibility conditions.

Our Technology​

Our thermal vision sensors provide the train driver a simultaneous coverage of wide Field of View for drivers’ situational awareness and a narrow sector of focus for longer ranges. They are designed with high dynamic range and thermal sensitivity, to detect and recognize objects in both daylight and low-light conditions, and to provide reliable classification, for hazards above 1000m ahead.

This sensor can dynamically cover both short and long distances, identify track switches position, signs and spot traffic lights, provide reliable classification information on obstacles above 1000m ahead and support shunting operation.

Radar uses millimeter wave frequencies to provide anomaly detections and accurate object’s distance and speed measurements for above 1200m alert ranges. Radar penetrates dense fog, rain, snow and haze and continues to function in harsh visibility conditions when all other sensors fail. Based on automotive industry technology, this high-resolution radar is one of a kind instrument, designed specifically for railways application and environment.
